well it's been a long time coming but i have finally set up the much touted malawi tank! so far it's got 100kg of ocean rock in it i may add more at a later date im not sure yet. once the rock had gone in i only needed 25kg of sand so that was nice saved me some money . so here she is.

the lighting is 4 three foot lights 2 blue and 2 white but there all a bit bloody soft to be honest so i figured they were good for malawi since they dont like bright light. ive got a background made of foam in there as you can see. it's filtered by by an eheim 2180 and 2227 the 2180 also heats the water.

i gotta say im happy with how it looks, but having said that im posting it to see if there is anything i can improve on? so critique away but be gentle its my first malawi tank after all

cant wait to get the fish now

thanks stang :D got the background off ebay of all places! and after i bought it it turned out that the guy who i bought it off lived about 5 minutes up the road

How's that for luck!
I don't think you need to change anything but I'm no expert on Malawi tanks. I love the ocean rock, so natural looking and the fish will love it.
We have a Malawi set up where I work (300G?) and it has loads of ocean rock in there. There are all sorts of Cichlids and some Synodontis catfish in there, all of which are breeding. They have plenty of hiding spaces and small enough gaps for the fry to hide away.
Keep us updated with pics!

yea the next pics will probly be when i get the fish which will be a couple of weeks yet i would think. i gonna have myself a shoal of cuckoo synodontis i think i love those guys :shout:

id like to see a pic of this tank from your works it sounds good :good:

Gonna be a belter, my only thing would be to move the filter inlets to the read of the tank, having them on the front glass is bad imo. Other than that lovely job so far :)

Also

Who is the seller that had the background, im in need of a structured type one for my livingroom Puffer tank, im thinking that might do the job nicely :)

Look forward to seeing pics with the fish in.

ive moved the 2227's inlet to the back of the tank but the other side of the tank is the 2180 which has 2 inlets so there is already one at the back of the tank so that cant be helped

ill find out his name for you and send it to when i get home from work its a bit early now

thanks for all the kind words everyone :good:

i love that back ground! i think im going to try and made one :hyper: do you know if its just normal foam they use to steal doors and windows?

its simply expanding foam if id of known that id of made it myself rather than paying for it!
