ive had a pair of guppys both one year old (they were fry when i put them together )(not from the same parents)

and they have been together for 5 mothes
and still she isnt pregnant and hasnt deliverd fry (ever)

one male one female .... no babys

my question is why?

That is what my sister said too now she found there are actually 2 in there so i am guessing that in like 2 monthes u might find a little suprize

its a bare tank......

i think id notice if there were fry....

none in the filter either...

is it possible that the make of the female is infertile?

shouldn't you have a couple more girls for the one male? he might be stressing her out to the point she aborts her fry every time she *does* get pregnant.

i would say buy another 2 females around the same age, leave them for a couple of weeks and you will have a small guppy army lol, a word of advice, if your hoping to keep the fry once they are born, buy some kind of floating plant so the fry can hide from the parents till you find them.
then either setup a new small tank for them or buy a floating breeder trap to put them in, good luck :good:

but i want my fry to have here genes....

i have no gravel.....

and i will but the floting plants once i see shes starting to get fat....

i think my male is gay....

ahhh

is there anything i should do other than feed them live food (which ive been doing )
for them to mate and have babys

if you want the fry to have her genes, then, after adding a few more females - and once she gets pregant- put her away from everyone else so she can have her babies, and you can keep them from being eaten. the others can fend for themselves.

male guppies are constantly wanting to breed, and if there is only one female for him he will literally harass her til she dies. she will be stressed out because of his constant annoying and *if* she did get pregant, she would abort the fry b/c of the stress.

with a few more females, the male wouldn't annoy her as much... she might keep the fry.

also in a bare tank there are chances that the guppies are eating the fry??

:good:

You need more females.

The fry will still have her genes, if you have one male and her. How would more females change that? -_- If you just want her fry, then seperate her, as mentioned. She's getting stressed out, and you will continue to have no fry until you get more females. Plus, it's not good for her to be stressed out. If she does get pregnant, she could abort her fry, have birthing difficulties, or even die. That's not going to help you get fry. :p

you know what your right!

ill add more females and then well see what happens

thanks for the help

You should definitely see a difference. In a few months, you'll have more fry then you know what to do with, provided they don't get eaten. Just add in some floating plants, and maybe a few caves, and you should be good. :)

this may sound a bit odd but is your water hard or soft, ive got fish the will only breed in soft water and vice versa. and i believe guppies prefer hard water
