my wild caught yellow acara has bounced around to several tanks, and finally settled in the last 30 gallon long I set up... it's a wild caught adult, and has been extremely un social... I added an adult silver dollar, similar to what I did in 2 other tanks, with my angels... acara kept the silver dollar in a corner, for 3 months, dollar was eating, and was keeping it's fins in tact... I noticed the other day, they were swimming next to each other, and over the last couple days, I've not seen the dollar in "it's" corner... and at long last, they are hanging together this morning... acara has been intolerant of any fish, any where in sight, particularly cichlids ( and I tried several ) and at 1st, was intolerant of the dollar, but the dollar has apparently earned it's place in this tank... I also have a worm line pleco in this tank, that didn't seem to bother the acara...

dollar and acara actually look like buddies today, both hanging out center tank 🙂

not the best pictures, as the lights aren't fully on yet...

The yellow acara is beautiful.
Shouldn't the silver dollar be in a large group of 20 or 30 ?
I agree with this and think the silver dollar would prefer a 75 gallon+ tank with at least 5 other silver dollars. However I’m happy that the combination is working for now.

silver dollars are typical 6-8 fish in a group, but they can be a stand alone fish... I've been using them as bonding fish, which is a better life, than as a dither fish...

so maybe ideal, would be 20 fish in a 500 gallon aquarium... but unfortunately for those fish, they'll never see that in the aquarium world...

How many active tanks do you have running currently?

Might have missed something but i think that is all.

Tap is approx 220 ec; ro is approx ec 20-40 (true blackwater); 50/50 mix is running around 80-120 ec (they are settling a little below 220/2).
