last night when my dad went to remove the carbon form our internal jewel filter, because we are treating the tank for ich with PROTOZIN, the filter fell off the side of the tank!!!!

weve managed to wedge it in place with some wood for now, anyone got ideas on how to fix it??

Thanks

Crikey, that's a first. How old is the tank ?
The only way to re-secure, would be to empty and dry the entire tank and re-apply silicone.

But I suggest you take this as a blessing in disguise and buy an external filter.
Just take all your current media and put it in the new filter - plug and play

Is it your Juwel 180 ? If so I suggest and Eheim 2224 (around £90 fully inc.) or 2026 (£115 - bargain!)

This is almost funny, because last night I spent nearly half an hour cutting a filter out of a Juwel tank!

If you wanted to fix it, some aquarium safe silicone would do the trick for sure.

hi, it was'nt so funny when we were both soaking wet trying to get it wedged in place properly! only kidding, it was quite funny!

im thinking about getting an external filter now my lfs has one for £50, ive got no money at the minute though (im a student, so im skint!)
so i'll have to save up!
the old filter is still wedged in place for now!
any other opinions appreciated!

bex i have a juwel vision 260 and had same problem. empty tank by half, then take out and clean filter sides, and aldo exposed glass. Ad a dollop of silicone in each of the 4 places the silicone was before. Press the filter back into place.

Be careful not to sit it too high. I did this and the light bar didnt sit properly. at least this way you dont have to clean out the whole tank. I never had a problem after.

But by only emptying the tank half would mean silicone can only be added to the top part of the filter ?
That would mean the current will still cause the filter to move away from the bottom section.

Apart from fish getting wedged into the loose space in the bottom, it's probably not the end of the world and can function like that (just "sitting on the gravel") for a short term period.

I've been thinking of removing my filter from my juwel 125, just not plucked up the courage yet. Knowing my luck i'll break the glass!! :( I wish mine would just fall off!! :D

you can get silicone that cures underwater. get a long stanley blade to scrape off the filter silicone :)

Aquarium safe silicone ? Can you give a link out of interest ? :)

That's great thanks  but where does it say that it "dries" submerged (or am I blind ?)?

Wow that's fabulous to know - thanks !

So people actually try really hard to get the internal filter out of a jewel tank, but then you got it off without wanting to. I would jump at the chance to get an external filter as in my experience I have found the jewel internal filters to be rubbish in comparison.

I agree the powerheads are crap on the smaller tanks, hardly had any flow and always blocking up, i removed the box and never looked back.
