Isolated pregnant female

Hi, I'm using one of these for isolating my pregnant female molly right now.

For how long can a fish be isolated like this without getting hurt/sad/ill ?
I think I've estimated the time of birth quite good, but you can never really know...

I've heard never to leave fish in a breeder like that for more than a day or two. I think it's because they can get so stressed out from being in such a small place, they might abort or deliver early. Hope this helps!

Sadly my molly gave birth a day before I was planning to put her in there...
I managed to rescue one(!). Found it in the filter.

Next up is the swordtail girlies. Hoping for better luck with them

If u r expecting frys, why not setting up a small tank (like a 5 gallon) especially for frys?

Breeding traps and nets will only get the mommy fish to stress out, no good at all.

Plus, the frys will need their own tank sooner or later, so it's better off setting up a fry tank beforehand. Just put lots of plant in with the mommy fish so when she gives birth, the frys will hide in the plants. Good luck!

I have a 30 litre somewhere in my parents house. I'll get that when I go there next week.

I currently have around 25 molly fry in a net breeding trap. What I did in the end was to leave my molly in the main tank with plenty of rocks and crevices to hide in, plants etc. The day she gave birth I went fishing with a net and dropped the babies into the net breeder. I've heard they're better for fry than the plastic type ones.

There's still one or two fry out lose in the main tank but I can't catch them. Still I've saved the majority of them..

Well, I couldn't wait that long... Went there today instead, and now I've got it installed in my bedroom. It'll come in very handy since my swordtail gave birth to 7 little swordies this morning. Just have to wait for the tank to get "fish-friendly" before I put 'em there.
