Hi,

My first post here after looking through some of the other threads. usefull stuff! :good:

Basically I have recently added a DIY CO2 system to my aquarium (juwel vision 450) after having some problems keeping plants. Now the Co2 system is really going and all of a sudden all of my plants seem to be chucking bubbles out like mad.

They never did this before and the surface of the water is now full of bubbles because of this. There is one plant in particular which has a constant stream from its base which i have taken a photo of and added as an attacchment to this thread.

I decided to see what happened when i turned the aquarium lights of and the bubbles stop. I did this a few times to prove this was not coincedence and it did it every time which now makes me think this is photosynthesis in action. Has anyone else seen this happen? are my plants OK???

Cheers

JC

Yes this Plant as doing this from the base like in the image but also from the leaves underneath as well...

under the leaves is likely to be gas exchange but roots??? leguminous plants can absorb nitrogenous gasses but these are bacteria present on the root nodules and i don't know of any leguminous aquatics anyway.

It cetainly is Photosynthesis :good: . Some of my plants bubble from the leaves some send out one big bubble from the centre of the plant some pearl. They all differ.

I found with a new CO2 setup my plants went crazy also but after a while they became nutriant defficient. I will now be doing EI (estimative index) which should eleviate this. Not sure what you are doing but may want to look into a fertalising.

Congrats

Wow, you people are fast around here! :good:

Thanks for the replies, and to Thommo, I do add plant food... I do not know much about the subject though.. i am quite new to this.

Cheers!!

More oxygen is produced at the roots of plants than leaves

I second that.
Hence, why this is one of the arguments against heater cables :)

All the above are right but that looks more to me like a stream of bubbles coming from a slight bit of damage. put a nick in a plant and it will release oxygen from the damaged section. Doesn't do any harm though :)
