Is this vertical bars on my female?

She is really flaring at him as well..

well they look like tiger stripes instead of head to tail stripes

i think those might be breeding bars which i believe go vertically....and stress stripes are the ones which go horizontally (head to tail)

these are indeed breeding bars. if they are realy obvious then she is feeling ready to breed. ive noticed some females show them in my sorority, and i feel it could be a dominance thing at times, from what you have previously posted, it does not sound as if your pair are ready, you havent conditioned them long enough and your female is slim and not eggy, thats not to say she dont have eggs, but she should be plump.

i dont mean to be rude or anything, but you realy seem to have rushed into this, you havent had your pair very long, you havent conditioned them properly, and its VT that your breeding from. which is not recomended at all, there is not enough demand for VTs as it is, and way too many are being bred.

have you sorted out grow out tanks for the resulting fry? they wont grow properly in the small spawning tank you have, and you wil need a method of sepperating the male fry as the dovelop, can you do this?
do you have live food cultures sorted out? microworms/vinigar eels/brineshrimp hatchery?

i dont mean to sound negative but are you ready to breed betta? we all have to start somewhere i guess.

Everything is very much sorted, i would not be doing it otherwise.

Although i can see your point and concern, i have someone who want the fry (when ready) so thats no problem.
Only reason i asked about these bars is because thats what my female is like, whether she is ready or not, or if they do breed or not, all i wanted to really know if this is what bars look like..

Thanks for your reply up to now :)

i'm not having a go, but personally I really like VT's, I think it's a shame there are never any on aquabid in glorious colours to admire, I think if people spent the time developing their colours and patterning as much as they spent on say CT's and SD's, etc....there would then be a market for them, I for one would probably stick to VT then.....

i mean take for example this picture.....which would not look half so nice on any other tail type

Just to make it clear I don't think it's ok just to breed willy nilly, but if it's all planned out and ok, and no fish will be mistreated I don't see the problem.....not trying to fall out with anyone....just saying VT's are underrated due to other tail types and I think it's a bit of a shame....VT males remind me of mini stallions the way their tails flow as they charge about, or hold them high :good:

i Love my VT's and will be sticking to them for now :)

if only everyone had this opinion. i dont mind vts, and if i see one with a colour that catches my eye, il consider him.

its a shame there is no real market for VTs, i think if they were recognised by the betta clubs and held classes for them in shows once more (they dont anymore) their popularity would increase and there would a demand for them.

as it stands however, there is little demand for VT among people who know what they are doing with betta. most pet shop VTs end up in either ornamental cups or nipped to shreds in comunty tanks with barbs and tetras, and hence do not live as long as they could. its a shame realy...
VTs are prety, but unfortunately there is no serious demand for the hundreds of thousands being bred comercialy for pet stores world wide

awww that thing about the showing is a real shame, i saw a very beat up ill looking cellophane VT at a pet store the othre day, i'd have rescued him but by the looks of him he wouldn't even have lasted the ride home :(
I'm a huge fan of marble VT's....would pick them up regardless, must admit I just have a thing for any tail type that is blue and mustard or blue and orange atm....
if only we could get that sort of thing over here!

agree i love to see a vt

i have read on this forum loads of times about these fish in really bad conditions in small jars.

i have not seen this in any of the shops i go in in hull or surrounding areas, all vts have been in tanks and really healthy .

i know of two shops in the area who will gladly take any babys off you if your lucky enough to breed them.

good luck :good:
