Is This Too Much In A 55 Gallon Tank?

Regarding the plecs, I’m not sure it's a good idea to put them in this size tank. Depending on the type, they can get to over a foot a half long. I had to return mine to my lfs recently as he got too big, and I’ve got a 260L tank (He grew to over a foot in length in just over a year). I think, plecs deserve at least a 5-6 foot plus (400L plus) tank due to their size.

As far as angels go, I have two at present and they don't bother anyone else in my tank. They fight with each other from time to time, but so far that's all.

I would also concur with the other posts, in that a betta shouldn't be put in.

There are different sized plecs. Don't bushy-nose plecs get just to be 3"-4"? Those would certainly be fine in a 55G tank. It all depends on the type he wants really.

First, I do want to get a bigger tank, I want a 120Gal or larger at some point in the not to distant future. With the right stand ive got the perfect place to put it. And im going to start saving for this tank the second i get this one setup.

Second, why should i get a bigger filter for the tank??? I spent $200 on this one and that isnt money i have to be throwing around on another one, especially when this one is rated for a max of 66 gallons.

Common plecos where the ones i would be buying, there the only types readily available at my LFS.

I'm actually really surprised to hear about the situation with the angels and the betta, But advice taken :)

I guess im getting another 20 gallon from my sister tomorrow.
I didnt know she had it, but i was going to use it for a quarintine tank and set it up beside my 50 Gallon.

and i kind of agree with chrismr about the ropefish eating things.
I remember from before the guys at the LFS saying (and by all means if this is untrue tell me, cause im honestly unsure) that if ropefish were raised eating pellts or flake, they will generally avoid eating your other fish.
To me this even seems like it might not be true, but what do i know.
Either way, i agree with him because they seem like such peaceful fish, and my old one was 1.5 feet long, the only fish he actually ate were the neon tetras, but once they all got eaten, he never bothered my other fish at all. He also never tried to escape, and he could have easily.

so, what would be a good combo of fish to keep with 2 ropefish?

Becasue in a 55G that filter gives you (at very best) just over 2x water turnover per hour, which is VERY low.

I paid £30 for an Eheim 2213, so there is a chance you listed the wrong model, either that or the prices are MUCH higher in America.

Im in Canada, and i didnt list the wrong model, its an Eheim 2213 Classic... and it cost me $189 brand new

for right now another filter isnt in the plans, noe do i have the cash for another right now

It was a bit expensive, but i got it from bigalsonline.com , except not online, i bought it at the store in my city.

Some of their stuff is a bit pricey, but dont forget this is Canadian dollars and not US Dollars.

I was going to get a Pro II 2028 Wet/Dry but it would have cost me like $400...I really did want that one.
