Apologies if this is the wrong section. This is my first post on this forum, and my first foray back into fishkeeping for many years. I've been planning to get back into the hobby, and have acquired a 125l tank as well as some initial hardscape supplies, but no substrate. My aim for the tank is for a well planted, community tank with a darker, natural-ish substrate, but have been going in circles deciding on colouration/shape/grain size/etc.

Would something like THIS be suitable? The two main concerns i have are its effectiveness in a planted tank, and its possible impact on fish species. I had hoped to keep a Pleco or two, and understand that they need a relatively smooth substrate so as not to harm themselves. Would this be a risk? unlike many others i've seen, it doesn't specifically mention that it is safe for them, so i'm a little worried.

Any advice would be appreciated! As a bonus, I'd love to hear any thoughts on good shoaling fish to add to a soft water community tank? I've been debating possibly some hatchetfish, or harlequin rasboras, but can't decide.

That looks fine as far as smoothness is concerned. I would want to see it in my hand before considering it OK for other substrate fish like cories. The site calls it a "sand" but that can mean various things and the grains look larger than "sand" to me, but there is nothing to compare them to in the photo.

It seems to say that the grains are 1-1.6mm, but i'm not sure what that looks like in practice i'm afraid. Seems a little coarse for a 'true' sand, but i don't know if that makes it unsuitable or not.

It depends upon the fish species. As I previously noted, it does not appear "rough" so the pleco should not have issues as it could over a rough substrate (or rough rock, something else to avoid for many fish).

Corydoras are filter feeders, and must be over an inert and smooth sand; so if these fish are being contemplated, a more "sand" sand would be advisable.
