Hi folks, i'm looking for an urgent answer to this one. I ordered 2 hmpks that arrived yesterday (a sibling pair). One I have positivly identified as male but the girl.... I've never owned a pk before so i'm not very good at sexing them. 'She' is currently in the sorority tank and getting on fine with the rest of the girls but something about her makes me not so sure.... Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looks like a male to me... But would like some people to back me up :)

I always use a mirror if the frill round their icky faces goes all the way round they are males, mind you I did have one I never could make my mind up...

Oh thank you this will help me with my rescuse will find out... What happened is they dont flare?

Because I was expecting a breeding pair. The girl was supposed to to in the sorority tank with the others. I have 10 tanks and cannot afford/ find a place for another. So now I have to find a home for the little guy (don't feel happy posting him again) and a girl for the other :(

Ask if a friend could take him?

Do you have any betta loving friends? I know if i was near you i'd whip him up in an instant.

No you wouldnt Forestpisces i would be there before you. And I would find a way to keep this one lol...

Haha... you know it ... I would get him first :D You just cant face it lol

Anyways good luck on finding him a good home. Some LFS buy fish off you ;)

Thanks folks :) I suspect finding a home for him won't be hard, parting with him will! But I just can't have another male. So much for my future hmpk dragon spawn :(

Lol unlucky from your point of view but lucky for the person getting him. Would go miles to get one like that :)

Anyways you will find a sexy female somewhere for your spawn - one day maybe tomorrow maybe in a couple of months time

Get a small tank with a clear divide and put this fish in alongside another fish you know is male. You can either get one of two reactions. I've never found a female that cared enough to posture back, but I have a male that would run and hide at the first sight of a female. XD Or you can just wait a while and see if this fish gets bloated with eggs.
