Is This Peat Safe?

The peat for aquariums (like everything else that is marked up specifically for the hobby) is shockingly priced if you've got several tanks to think about ... so I'm on the search for peat to experiment with that is cheaper.

Do you think is safe, it doesn't say that there are added fertilisers ...

Looks good to me. The box says 100% peat. Just be sure to rinse it first.

Peat is quite acidic, which would suit lots of fish species well, but is something to think about.

That is the reason I'm going to experiment with it. My water pH is over 8 but I would like to keep SA cichlids and already have some South American plecs which could do with a tank to suit their needs better.

I know it's fairly unpredictable stuff though, so I'm going to use the method where you make up a solution and add a tiny tad and keep a close watch on water parameters I think, rather than adding it straight to the filters.
