Is this Normal?

Play sand from Argos is cheap (I know I work there!) The problem is getting it from there at this time of year it is what they call a seasonal item and they tend to replace paddling pools, sandpits and sand with the christmas trees.
Toys R Us I believe sell play sand all year round and like someone else said B&Q and to be honest £4 for 25g is quite a good price too.
I tried adding sand to my aquarium once, I didn't wash it properly and I ended up with a very cloudy tank. I dont have much time to spare so I syphoned, cleaned and went back to my original gravel. I think the sand would have looked much better, shame I didn't have the time to persevere with it.
Good look, I have to say your tank is going to look nice when it is all set up and finished with some fish in there, what are you planning on putting in?

yep... but remove the big plastic tube and just use the hose, hovering the hose just above the sand - the poop will get sucked up nicely.

thnx i was always wondering how that was done

Two columbian sharks and three scats. I was thinking some large rocks and driftwood too.

hehe very nice looking tank there.

whilst you lot were washing your sand I just chucked mine in filled it up and it was perfectly clear allll the way

i bought fine dried silica sand for £2.99 for a 25kg bag from my local agregates supplier!!

it was for my 10 crab tank. emptied it out placed the sand in built the caves up then i syphoned water in, i placed the inlet hose on a rock structure so not to disturb the sand.

If you cant get it from argos... we have 3 bags left unopened in the shed (I over estimated BIG style)

If your local you can have them at cost...

Edit: _ its looking Loads better by the way
