Is This Normal?

I have a very weird problem that i can't for the life of me figure out. i have been keeping fish for several years now and am noticing something very strange that is going on w/ my fish. for the first few moths i have them, they're not afraid of ne thing but for some reason the longer i have them the more they freak out whenever some one other than me aproaches the tank,when the tank gets bumped,when i change the water etc. none of the tanks are in high traffic areas or anything like that and the only fish that do this are the schooling fish;neons,serpaes,red eyes, and cardinals(they are all in schools of 5 or more).is this normal? or is there something else going on?

The fact that there in low traffic areas may be to blaim, while in the fish store they have to get used to hords of people walking past. Perhaps after a while in your tank there getting adjusted to few people therfore its a little scarier when people do come along if you understand me?
