I have an orange Molly that has a white spot (about 1mm wide) on its head. He also has slight red streaks on his tail fin. He's been hanging around the bottom of the tank for a few days and looks lethargic. I am setting up a hospital tank tonight to move him into.

Thanks, Mike

If it's Ich it would normally cover parts of their body and fins with lots of tiny salt-like spots and you may see the fish flicking or rubbing itself against tank objects. It also makes them lethargic and off their food at times.

Not sure what your fish might have (unless it's the start of Ich) - are you able to post a photo for us to see?

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Red streaking in fins is septicemia caused by bad water quality, dirty tanks, open wounds, parasites.
The spot on the platys head does it have a circling of red around the edges, or a red centre.
Whitespot looks like the fish has been sprinkled in salt, or spots the size of a grain of salt or sugar.

Wilder - It is a 10 gallon tank with about 7 fish (guppies and a molly and tetra). I have just finished the nitrogen cycle so it was likely due to water quality. The white spot is just white no redness. His body looks ok but he definately is lethargic and stays towards the bottom. He does come up for food.

White patches and spots can be columnaris spots.
If the spot is not the size of a grain of salt I would issolate the fish and try a bacterial med.
Being lethagic can be a sign of a bacterial infection.
If the fish has red streaking to thats septicemia.
Maracyn one and two, or maracyn plus.
