Hi guppy_man :)

I'm going to move your thread to the Planted Tanks section. I think you might get more replies there. :D

Hi guppy man,

I've just started my nano with this, from what Ive heard it really good and as you say doesn't need cycle and you dont have to wash it, which is a big pain with flourite. I guess the deciding factor may be the price. How bigs the tank? They say you need 2lb per US gallon so for a big tank it may cost quite a bit. I got mine for 25quid per 20ld bag.

Hope this helps

Sam :)

You can use it as a first layer, or where you think you'll plant most of your plants. It is supposed to contain enough nutrients and such to keep your plants that rely heavily on root fertilisers happy for 2 years... (Amazon sword, cryptocoyrnes...)

I like it's colour and feel it provides a good contrast to the lively green of my plants. Also, since I've used it in my tank, I have noticed a tremendous decrease in hair algae. Or maybe my algae crew is finally doing it's job...

I also like the difference in size of it, which makes it look more natural IMO. (There are some bigger particles here and there...) It is also easy to work with, just dump it right into your tank, no need to wash this stuff for half an hour like Flourite. All in all, bar the price, I'm really happy with this product.
