hello

has anyone used one of these and are they any good.

thanks

i have a choice between the aqua medic minifloater and the prizm skimmer deluxe.

apart from the appearance which is better or are they both the same.

thanks

The Prizum's are widely considered not worth the plastic they are made of, where as Aquamedic Minifloators are regarded as good HOB's. I only use the latter. For smaller tanks, it would be OK, but the claim of suitable for 600l that the modle I use is rated for is seriously overstating it's capabilities. 200l at a push would be more realistic IMO...

What tank are you kitting out, and how heavy will the stocking be? Also, is this a reef or not?

All the best

well its for a 200 litre tank.
FOWLR... stocking is fairly small at the moment its whats in my sig below.. but i will be adding a couple of more (small fishes)

currently theres about 30kg of live rock and i have an external with live rock rubble in but i want to remove the external.

what would u recommend me to do.. i have the mini floater aqua medic currently in the tank but prefer the prizm purely because it hangs on the back of the tank,

ive read some reviews and some of them rate them very highly.

the one i am interested in is http://www.warehouse-aquatics.co.uk/marine...ump-p-2536.html

someone currently has this on Ultimate reef for £30 2nd hand

Most of us overskim, my skimmer is on a 40g tank with 13g sump. The midiflotor is rated for 100 gallons.

The prism I think would be better on a much smaller tank, even though rated so high, it does not get anywhere near what is rated at.

Sorry, I'm getting the models mixed up. The Miniflotor is the big air-stone driven one isn't it? I'm thinking of the HOB AquaMedics you can get  The Midiflotor one is actually better than AquaMedics HOB's IMO, having ran both

If you are looking at a skimmer for a FOWLR tank, look for one rated for a tank twice the size of yours. For a reef, look for a skimmer three times the size of yours, unless you have corals that prefer "dirty" water...
