Right well have decided my spare 14 us gallon tank in the dining room will be home to a nice male betta and some shrimp most likely amano or cherry or both even. My mums set on the idea :)

Anyway have been trying to work out a way of slowing the current down on my outlet on my filter as it is pretty fierce and makes a fair bit of current, so I come up with the idea of using a spray bar mounted onto an adapter to make it fit into the filter, so I can pump the main air through it rather than water, this disperses the air through the holes on the spray bar and spreads the current, I have this then pointed at the surface to try and reduce the under water currents.

Currently I think its good as it only makes small ripples over the surface and the air coming out of the spray bar really doesnt feel that strong to trouble it.

Some pics I just took to try and capture the movement of the water:

Please ignore the decor etc as its not staying like that at all! Still need to get down the LFS so I can get all the bits to make it look great :D :fun:

I find it really hard to tell how my betta will cope with it with my hand as obviously im a human  Ive never kept a betta anyway so thought id check with you guys/gals :)

That should be fine, although I would suggest turning the spray bar a bit more towards the back wall of the tank to increase further the agitation.

They get quite stressed out with current so the LEAST current the better :good:

Thats what I had been reading :) Ok well think ill just leave it as it is for now and see how the betta gets on with It, and I have another trick up my sleeve that I designed today if I need to reduce the current further :D

Turn the pipe so the holes are facing the back wall and pointing down slightly. That way the current should hopefully flow down the glass and not disturb of buffet the betta. Adding sturdy leaved plants along the back wall, like amazon swords or crypts may also deflect any flow. It's better to deflect flow rather than slow it down as that can knacker the motor in your filter after a while.

Failing that, if the betta still is upset by any remaining movement, you can always get a sponge filter to replace the current one. They produce no current and are usually used for fry tanks by most breeders. If they are safe for tiny fry they will be absolutely fine for an adult betta.
