at my place of work we sell an 11 litre plastic tank and wondered if it would be big enough for one betta ?

was thinking of getting one to keep on my desk ?

they don't need filters or heaters do they ?

although bettas dont require a heater or a filter i believe it does best with both. 11 liters is perfect but if you arent getting a filter you will need to clean the tank daily.

well i could buy a small heater and filter but obv it will make the tank space a lil bit smaller is that a problem ?

im pretty sure you can buy battery operated filters and they should have all kinds of different sized filters at your LFS that arent very expensive. and as for a heater it shouldn't take up too much room either. also with plastic tanks for some reason they tend to start to smell bad so i really do suggest putting in a filter.

yer i got no problems with adding a filter and heater but just didn't want the tank to end up being to small !

yes i would go for a heater, bettas like warm temps around 26-32c a filter is bets though you dont have to use them just daily water changes of about 30% The tanks about 2galons so thats perfect.

would an UG filter be enough or you reckon a proper filter would be best ?

the heater i use is a 25 Watt Hydor Theo with a built in thermostat. i have my betta in a 1 gallon (soon to be 3 gallons, hopefully) and it is WONDERFUL! however, i don't know if the outlet would work because you're in the UK, but something similar in size and wattage should be good.
as for filters, i've heard good things about the whisper filters, although i don't have one yet. i'm planning on buying one in a couple of weeks when i upgrade my tank.
