I see these brown chunks in my tank, on both of my Amazon swords and also on my stone piece. They're only on surfaces with full exposure to my light, but they're these little chunks and sit in a regular pattern across the areas they're on. They're three dimensional as well, not just spots

The only thing I changed was I added some dying salvinia that had been sitting in it's own water about two or so days ago, which seems to be slowly dying off and sinking down

Have you moved around your susbtrate recently? It might be debris. Move the leaves around and see it it falls off.

I haven't moved the substrate at all no, and I'll move it and check when my snail is done acclimating since most of it is halfway down or more. It certainly looks like it's not stuck on by much

Where do you think it came from? Maybe the salvinia or something?
Maybe the salvinia or excess nutrients in the water too. When you said 'rubbed' , then it is algae. Sorry, I told you wrong  It looks like debris at first.

No worries! I've never seen algae like this, but hopefully the snail sees it as a treat

Neither did I. The algae looks unusual to me. I hole it disappears fromy our tank in one night  I find algae quite annoying too.

It might be cyanobacteria?

I hope it's not cyano! This looks like it would be easy to remove if I sucked it out though so hopefully it isn't
