hi guys

I'm pretty observant of my fish... I woke up this morning to find 2 of my mollys with white spot. They definately didn't have it last night so I have caught it early and treated the whole tank with interpet anti white spot this morning. I also noticed 2 other mollys had very long stringy poos trailing behind them... just wondering if this is due to the whitespot, or something else? and if so how should I treat this?

I would treat the whole tank for Whitespot. And do some big water changes. This can spread so fast, Chances are if one of them have it visibly then the rest will have. So no need to seperate. :) Keep us posted.

I treated the whole tank this morning. I did a water change yesterday before I noticed any symptoms. how often and how much water should I now be changing?
Also it says to remove any carbon filters (which I did) but also zeolite? I googled this but couldn't find anything relating to my filter, so I guess I don't have that?

thanks for the help, much appreciated... only new to fishkeeping in the last few months and this is my first outbreak of white spot so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible :)

p.s. didnt know whether the long stringy poo was like a parasite that needed another treatment as well, or whether the anti whitespot treatment on its own would do the job?

You did well then :) Yes remove the Carbon otherwise any chemicals you put in your tank will be taken straight out by the carbon :) So well done on that one :) id just step up your water changes untill its cleared. I would do 50% twice a week rather than once in my case.

Dont know what Zeolite is too be honest, so cant comment on that.

Good too know that your doing your research first, I wish i had done the same when i began :( :good:

That was proberbly just poo too be honest, i wouldnt worry too much about it at the moment, unless it keeps coming and coming and coming. :)

p.p.s... sorry to pest again!

but I just thought I'd check what temperature I'm best going to? the tank is usually 23-24c... I have increased to 25 so far... I have read to increase to 30c whilst teating the tank but I was worried my beloved cories wouldn't like it( I know they prefer cooler water) what temperature am I best increasing to bearing in mind my other fish (see sig)

bump! please guys, someone must be able to advise...

Its advised to turn your heat up as this speeds up the life cycle of the ich.
Anti ich meds will only kill ich when its in its free swimming stage. So by turning up the heat your speeding up the process.
Its also said that most strains of ich cant survive at temps of 30c or higher so the heat kills it off as well as the meds.

Your Corys should be ok with the increase of heat as they can normally adapt with a slow gradual increase.
However from what iv read online, neon tetras are abit more sensitive to heat and dont like waters hotter than 26c so i wouldnt go higher than that unless someone else with abit more experience says its ok

Also Im not familliar with interpet anti whitespot but be careful that it doesnt kill off your biofilter sending you into another cycle. Meds sometimes can cause more problems than they solve.
Keep a close eye on your ammonia and nitrite whilst treating

Hope all goes well

Id bring your heater up too 27, But no higher, Otherwise your putting the tetra's in danger. But like said above, The cories will be fine with that. Just do it gradually :)
