when i do a water change in my tank when putting the water back in can i use the hot water tap and mix the water in the bucket before i add it to the tank????

I always use water heated in the kettle, making sure that no scale gets through by using a fine mesh sieve- I do this because I have softened water through my hot taps, I've never had any problems this way.

i agree with captain
usually, i'm no plumber mind, your hot water goes through different pipes in your house than your cold, as does your kitchen sink and your bathroom sink.

i always use the cold tap in my kitchen for tank water as (i believe) this comes straight from the mains.

whereas water in your bathroom maybe stored in a tank in your loft and your heated water going through another tank to get heated, lots of possible contaminants, metals, coppers, potentially affecting your water there!

At my place, which is beat up and gross and old, I always boiled some cold water and mixed it with the cold until I got the right temp.

At my parents place, which is new and has new pipes and stuff, I just put my finger under the tap and adjust it until it feels the right temp, then fill 'er up with that.

It depends how much you trust your water, IMO.
