I've had four platies for a week now (1 male, 3 females) and one of the females is looking pretty plump, she has the male following her all the time although she keeps moving away from him most of the time. Do you think she's pregnant, and if she is, is she near to popping therefore needs to go in a breeding net?

Many thanks,

Jay.

Although it's obvious the female is on the right.

Yup, they look pregnant
Platies are always pregnant. Must be hard for them... lol

btw, livebearers breeding questions should be in the Livebearers section.

They are beautiful looking fish jay2jay99. She looks quite large to me. I would put her in a breading net because you never now when they might pop out.

With my old livebearers, i came home one day after school to find the bottum of the tank littered with little baby fry, soon eaten by my gouramis....grrr.

So next time around i put them two females in a breeding cage suspended from the top of the surface and all went well! And i traded them to the lfs at a reasonable price! Im prataling now!

Goodluck

Cheers, I'm off to by a breeding net now, the female is hiding away alot more now so I think it'll be soon. I'm just hoping she doesn't abort the pregnancy due to the stress of being moved into the net which I heard can happen.

Here is a few more pics now that I have my breeding chamber, I wasn't 100% sure which one it was so I put two in in seperate sections, I'm pretty deffinate it's the one on the right but she doesn't look as pregnant as before, could she have lost them? What do you all reckon?

Jay.
