Hey...This is my plan!!!
- Purchase a pair for my 15gallon and another pair for a 37gallon community (understocked).
- Purchase 30 or more kribs (4-5cm) and place them in a large bucket of 60Liters (16 gallons) and try and sell/give away straight away.
- Have a spare 30 liter (8gallon aquarium) for an emergency tank to house the fry of the 15g and 35g if hopefully they breed.
- Keep the fry in the 8g until they reach 1cm, than i will transfer them into the 16g bucket.
- Fish 3cm or above from the bucket will be taken out and placed into the 37gallon understocked community until they reach sale size at around 4-5cm.

Basically, i will get two pairs. I will also get 30 or more 4cm kribs in which i will try and sell straight away to the lfs...Once the two pairs breed, i will place their fry into an 8g aqauarium until around 1cm...When they reach 1cm, i will place them in a 15.5g large bucket until they reach 3cm. When they reach 3cm, i will place all kribs 3cm or above to my 37gallon understocked community until they grow to 4-5cm (ready for sale)...So, is this a good idea if i want to breed, raise and sell kribensis...Thankyou for any replies.

Edit: Summary.

unless you know of a wholesaler in your area who's willing to buy all of your spawns, don't breed kribs. they are one of the most easily bred and commonly available dwarf cichlids.

try getting a known pair or trio of one of the easier apistos (borelli comes to mind as an option). ask the owner of your LFS if anyone else in the area is breeding them and if the answer is "no", then you might have a market.

just remember, most cichlids spawn faster than their babies get bought.

thanks...and yep im aware that they breed easily now its got me thinking if i should purchase the 30 odd young ones...i called up a lfs and asked if they have kribs...They said yes and i asked them if their willing to buy some off me...They said yes and i will get in store credit for kribs over 4-5cm (selling range)...Once i get the fish, il call them up again and see if there running out of kribs and if they are...i could give it to them...Of course with this, i have some friends that are willing to take some off my hands if things gets too crowded...I havnt bought them yet, so am thinking of just getting two pairs and go from there...I might even get the 30 other kribs if the fish shop is willing to take them on the same day...i dont know yet...but my plan will still stay...So do you think this is a good plan to breed, raise and sell kribs???
Thanks again.

Im not really up on my kribs but could you get wild caught that way the fry would be worth more and be of a much higher quality.

I have bred some wild caught mbuna and every shop i know said they will definitely have some and there probably a few on here would take some off me

Just to let you know I raise, sell , and breed kribs and the lfs is always willing to give me store credit for them. Kribs take about a month to breed.

i tried this a while back. the 1st batch, the LFS were thrilled to take them. 2nd batch, LFS not quite so excited since they still had most of the 1st group left. 3rd batch the LFS categorically refused to take because they still had over 50 kribs in their tanks.

like i said, you need to get in touch with a wholesaler or else breed something a bit rarer (and therefore more desirable) than kribs.

yeah i agree with most others.spend the money on uncommon fish to your area that has a high demand.this is what im doing with my synodontis petricola.im the only one around me that has these fish.

All I know is that a place in pekin,Ill never has kribs becasue they always sell out so they are always open to buy from me.

kribs when bred in neutral PH7 usually have both male and female fry in the batch. if the water is higher than 7 (alkaline) the fry will be all male. if the water is under 7 (acidic) they will be all female. most shops like pairs they wont like all one sex

I told VidVid that about a week ago and when above 7.0 most, not all fry will be male. And below 7.0 most will be female, not all, but most.

If you really want to breed cichlids then go for vics these fish are in rapid decline and need responsible breeding they are hard to get hold of but what a difference you could make to the hobby.

I have some vics and have been emailed from the us and japan about my fish, unfortunately my females are to inbred to carry on breeding any fry would only serve to add more poor quality fish to the hobby

Convicts wont make anything but a mess. I bred some and tries to sell them to a lfs and they said that they get so many free that they wont pay for them.

Vic as in lake victoria cichlids rare but beautiful fish with most on the endangered species list

When I turn 16 and get a job at my favorite homeowned lfs, I will think of brreding some vics, can you recommend some that arent too pricey? VidVid I think that you need more plants in your tank and about 20 pounds of slate, so the kribs do better and dont squabble for territory as much and they wont kill each other because they can hide.
