About three years ago I had Joey the betta, he was fab I really enjoyed looking after him. he lived in a four Gallon glass tank which has since been given away. I never wanted another betta, until recently, they have some beautiful boys and girls in my LFS, so I am going to pick one today!

I like the look of this tank,

My house is stupidly warm (thank God) so I won't need a heater,

Also I have a twelve G hex tank I was thinking about getting two females for it, its empty at the moment, it is a heavily planted tank and that is what I have been concentrating on. what do you think?

cheers

yeah that's about 5g so plenty of room for a betta, are you going to filter it?

i think for sorority tanks it's best to have at least 5/6 girls together as just two may fight with each other. not sure if a 12g tank is big enough for 5/6 of them?? sure someone else can help though

It comes with a filter, but looking at the price I can pretty much guess it will be rubbish. so I shall probably get an extra one.

THe shop also have sparkling Gouramis, so I might go with a trio of them instead. A hex is such a funny shape to stock. looks good but is a realy pain!

thanks for the quick reply!

yeah probably, but if your only gonna have 1 little fish in there you probably don#t need to worry, i've got a similar small tank with a pretty naff trickle filter, but with just 1 betta in it's perfectly good.

:)

sparkling gourami's are lovely, aren't they a little delicate though?? or is that chocolate gourami's  can't remember!

went to the Shop and everyone of those lovely bettas had been sold. humph.

will have to wait till after Christmas :grr:

very annoying.

Mind you all good things come to those who wait!

and they did ahve some Albino Kribs that looked fab!

there is also a 14 litre version of that tank, I guess its the bigger the better? and really I would like to give them the biggest tank I can

That 21 liter tank looks great for having one betta.

As for a sorority, I would get a long tank of at least 15 gallons for 5-6 females. A hex just wouldn't work for a sorority since it's tall not long. Those females can get aggressive too and need space to retreat and have territories.

i figured as much on the Female front, like I said the hex is a pain to stock. I did have guppies in there. hmmm.

will have to wait till after Christmas for anything now -_- got no patience, bit a of a problem in this hobby!

You could actually get away with 6-7 females in a 12g, plenty of room. I usually overstock a little with the sorority girls, it seems to help spread out their aggression and there isn't any ganging up on each other. It also helps if you can buy girls that are sisters, they have already grown up together and established the hierarchy.

texan is just trolling. igonore him. he was messing around in the planted section too.
