I have recently started to set up a tank and have been offered some fish from a friend and want to check if everything would be happy in my tank.
My tank is 80 litres  (3ft x 1ft x 1ft)
The fish i have been offered are 1 silver shark (about 5/6 inches), 1 red finned shark ( about 4 inches), pleco (about 6 inches) 1 pearl guarami and six xray tetra are these fish ok for the size of my tank? If i got these fish could i add any more in the future?

No silver shark
No red finned shark
Plec is a question but my guess is it is a commom which would be a no

Gourami - don't know
Tetra should be okay.

You carnt mix sharks, and im guessing they will get to big for your tank. I could be wrong on the size, but I know you carnt mix sharks unless you have a fairly big tank.

Agree with what has been said so far.
Sharks are a Big no, as they can fight with each other. And would get far toooo big for the tank.

The Pearl Gourami and Tetras will be fine.

The fish have been in my friends tank for years together with no fighting

Hi Suzanne & welcome to the boards, the information people have offered about the sharks & the problems with the fish sizes are all really good, your friend probably has not had any problems yet if they are still growing, but it would be a real shame for you to rehome them for your friend & then get all the problems as they get older. :/

I think its always best to decide your stocking for yourself, rather than taking someone elses fish on, that way you could choose a fish you really love & then plan its environment & tankmates for a happy, healthy tank, there are so many gorgeous fish out there to choose from.

no

Karigupi and the others have made very good points about the fish you have been offered - the gourami and tetras are good choices though and would allow you to add to your stocking later on. I would advise accepting these (if you like them!) and gently declining the others.

Have you cycled your tank? If not or if you don't know what I'm talking about have a read of the beginners section on here.

Really the best thing your friend could offer you is some of her filter media :)

Yeah. Just to agree with the above.

I had a red tailed black shark in my 110 litre for 3 weeks or so. It claimed over half the tank as its own territory and chased any fish that came near. To be honest although i loved that fish im glad its gone. Not only was it agressive but it also would have grown far too big for my tank.

Silver sharks as already stated really should be in a group of 3 and above and will grow way to big for your tank

Id advise you try to find out the type of plec you have been offered as most grow very large and also create loads of waste

Id consider a school of maybe 12 neon/cardninal/glowlight tetra but only after your tank is established

Good luck :good:
