I posted this in the normal trop discussion, but was told maybe I should post it here. Its not an emergency (i hope) but it is an issue i need to fix.

So these guys are acting and eating fine, and just finished spawning for the second time. No other fish have shown any signs of any issues in months now. To be honest I specifically remember seeing a spot or two on the males fin when I bought him, and at the store, pointed out the spots, and the guy said they were fine. (which i could tell they werent whitespot/itch) so i thought maybe just the way his fin looked. now Ive noticed the spots have multiplied. they also seem to be raised off the fin, like they are actually bumps, and one day he had what looked like the spot had burst, and there was a little white stuff hanging off the spot. please help!

and then the female, again, had this very light colored area on her head(when i bought her!), and i think? its gotten bigger. The only thing I can think of is a fungal infection of some sort? Ive kept up on 40% WC's weekly, and all fish are acting fine.

What do you guys think? Should I get some general type meds, like primafix or melafix? Do you guys think it looks fungal?

also, i posted this a couple weeks back but without pics, and without mentioning the female. I dont think the males is itch, cuz A. it hasnt spread nor does he flick, and B. it doesnt look like grains of salt. (and ive dealt with itch once, and it looked different, not with these particular fish tho)

no one????? no one answered the last time i posted this, but i was hoping with pics i would get a few replys

Well first off need a bit more info.

I see the tank size and inhabitants in your signature. Is that current? What are your water stats? What test kit do you use? How often do you test? What is your maintenance regime like?

There are others that will have more experience than I but the grey area on the female rainbow looks like velvet from the picture. It could also be costia, or blue slime disease. The spots are definitely something but I'm not certain if it is bacterial or fungal. It looks like a cotton fin fungus to me.

If it was me, I would treat for velvet/ costia/ich and do as many water changes as the medication allows. Fungal infections can sometimes be cured with pristine water and a high quality food.

That is the best I can do. Please answer the questions above and hopefully some of the more experienced folks can chime in. In the meantime, water changes water changes water changes.

sorry yeah i thought i posted it, but i do weekly 40% WC's (havent missed one yet) and the info in my sig is up to date. I have had the tank running for a couple months now, and i get consistent double zeros using my liquid test kits. I try to keep my water nice and clean, and with the rainbows spawning, Ive been keeping track of things very closely.

You say velvet for the female, and that was the only thing I could see that would match whats happening with her. I also run a UV light with my filter, so maybe its keeping these two issues from spreading very fast, but they are surviving on the fish themselves? idk if thats possible. I thought i read velvet can spread. And this has barely spread at all even on the fish itself. Ive looked back thru my photos of the fish, and these two issues are there in the very first pics i took of them. Im debating just getting a general fix like mela or primafix, and seeing if that helps. I might as well get some antifungal stuff specifically. I just figure someone has had something like this.

thanks again and I hope to get a few more replies.

well i tried some anti fungal stuff, and its not changing anything on the fish at all, but is killing all my sword plants.

anyone got more ideas for me?

my goldfish looked like that once it looked like little grains of salt. when that happened i put stuff for ick and it went away and my goldfish are fine still alive and breathing

i used quick cure
