Hi.
I'm planning on turning my 10 gal community into a fry tank. I currently have the fry in a breeder net, but They'll outgrow it shortly. My community will be moving into a 38 gal I recently started cycling.
My question is this:
Is there every too much filtration?
If there is not, could someone check these filtration plans:
Currently, my 10 gal and my 38 gal both have HOB filters. The one in my 10 gal is covered by a sponge to avoid fry being sucked in. I could turn that sponge into a sponge filter, and run it. Once I turn my 10 gal into a fry tank, the HOB would be removed.
Could I build (or buy, but that's my second choice) a sponge filter capable of filtering my 38 gal, then put it in with the HOB and have the tank be almost instantly cycled? Then I could move my adult fish right away, and have the fry Live in the 10 gal with the sponge filter?
In the fry tank, could I also have 1 other sponge filter running for added filtration?
If I run 4 sponge filters in my 10 gal, here's what would happen (filters are numbered 1-4):
#1- Stay to filter 10 gal
#2-Stay to filter 10 gal
#3 (more power)- After running in 10 gal for 2 weeks, move to run 30 gal alongside the HOB (instant cycle?)
#4- MOve with #3 for indefinite amount of time ntil I save enough to get a betta, the plop the filter in the betta tank (instant cycle?)
Hope this was clear.
