Is There Much Benefit Of Uv In A Tank?

I've been told there's not a lot of point to them. Apparently as long as you look after your tank you shouldn't need one. and also apparently it can cause your fish to have no immune systems so if on the outside chance they do get something then they won't be able to fight it.

I did consider getting one though in 2010 when I seemed to have a problem with repeated bacterial infections.

it will do a job but if the tank is maintained well then you shouldnt need it.

basicaly the UV will zap any nasties in the water as it passes through the UV chamber, it will also kill some types of algae thats free floating in the water. to work effectively it needs to be set up right with the right flow rate from the filter to match the UV system. if the flow is too fast then the UV wont do anything as it wont have chance.

people seem to think that a UV system will rid a tank of disease and algae or prevent outbreaks but this just isnt true

happy fish = healthy fish and healthy fish = happy fish so if taken care of right there isnt any need for UV syatems. except maybe on a quarentine tank.....

i was wondering,as my tank gets direct sunlight most of the day,and there is no where else i can put it,in the winter months it is fine its just that during the summer i get the occasional algae bloom.
