Basically, right now I'm running two 11watt flourecent bulbs in my 10 gal tank. I, of course being new at this, thought "WHOOPIE!" because that's what you think when you're under the impression you're running 2+ WPG and have just set up a DIY CO2 kit and are excited because you're plants are supposed to grow now. Appearently the appropriate response, which I wasn't aware I was supposed to be making, was "CRAP bulb intensity says you're still really only running 11WPG so you probably shouldn't be surprised your plants aren't 'thriving.'"

Also all I've really seen success with so far is tiny little threads of algea growing on the plants which aren't growing nearly as fast as the tiny little threads of algae. If I were trying to grow algae I would be pretty excited right now because it's doing awesome. Maybe I should try an algae tank so I can brag about how great it's doing.

Anyway, I suck at building things--especially if they involve electricity or putting things together in a specific order using parts that aren't put together yet. SO, is there anywhere I can order a prebuilt hood for a 10 gal tank that can handle larger screw-in flourecent bulbs--say . . . 30ish watts a piece? If the answer to that is no, OH GOD SOMEONE BUILD IT FOR ME FOR MONEY or at least just give me instructions on how to build one that are so simple and broken down that I can look at them confident that I can build it so that I can have someone else do it but not because I couldn't do it just because I didn't feel like it or I didn't have the tools or something else unrelated to not being able to do it myself.

if your using indasents olants don't do well in these bulbs you want flourescents oybe one expecially for plants. There is a bigger fluorescent bulb out there you can het a VHO bulb but you will have to get a bigger ballast to start those puppys. very expensive you can also get power compacts wich is a type of flourescent. If your running a bulb that is not intended for your plants like just a regular bulb. I only have one 15 watt bulb on my tank and everything doing great. So maybe you just need a bulb that is meant to be used on planted tanks.

I'm using two flourecents, one is just a whitish flourecent (10 watts) and the other is more of a ruddy orange natural light in a flourecent shape (11 watts).

Which of the two is better? Are they good?

You'll have to find out the kelvin rating of the bulbs, and you'll also need at least 30 watts in there as the wpg rule doesn't work in tanks smaller than 30 gallons.

I'm getting ok results with 26W over a ten gallon tank; I'm growing Java Fern, Java Moss, Cryptocorynes and Hygrophilia. The Javas and the Crypt have sufficient light; the hygro is receving enough to continue growing, but at about 1/4 of the rate it can go.
