Im looking to plant my 90 gallon out with easy plants that i can just have a gravel fertilizer with, as the Co2 system is way to expensive for me.

I invested 40 Indian Rupees for my DIY CO2 system (Thats less than a US dollar).

Basically I have a yeast system in a pop bottle, attached to a "long" airstone, you know, the kind that have a curtain at the back. The main problem is getting the CO2 to dissolve in the water. Proper diffusers cost more than a 1000 rupees here !!

Now, the CO2 will not form a "curtain" of bubbles from the airstone, because there is not enough pressure. It will basically take the path of least resistance and you will see around 3 places on the stone from where the bubbles emerge.

I have strategically placed plants at these spots, and the bubbles are blocked by the leaves of the plants, that creates a "ladder" like system. Sure enough, I see fewer and fewer bubbles travelling up.

Trouble is, I don't have any testing kits, as they are very costly too, but my algae has started disappearing, and plants have started pearling, so I'm sure that it's working :) (well, to some extent atleast)

If you are still skeptical about this, then you can just go in for easier plants that don't require CO2, the ones that Jen has mentioned.

I would say go with a DIY CO2 system. It worked great with me, until I got lazy. All I used for a diffuser, was I took the gravel washer part of a siphon, drilled a hole in the big part of the bottom for the air hose, put a powerhead on the top part where the hose would be. The bubble would travel up to the powerhead, get dissolved by the impeller, and voila!

90gal tank?

500-600gallon pond?

and you don't have enough $ for a pressure co2?

I don't see the logic....

I'm down in FL with you and I just recently got my pressure co2 system, all I needed was a 5lb canister and co2 gas. With tax it cost me $100 with change. As for a regulator with all the bells I found new on eBay for $80 shipped. I already had co2 resistant tubbing from my previous co2 setup (hagen yeast co2 generator).

Total cost was $180

5lb of co2 gas was only 10 bucks.

Its a wise investment since the price of the equipment doesn't fluctuate so you can always re-sell and get your money back usually to the dollar.

Thanks Jen. First of all Im 15, and I dont have a job... yet! The aquarium was a christmas present, and the 500-600 gallon pond was made by my dad, as he makes ponds for a living. He said I could stock the pond to my liking, so I jumped at the idea.

Man, I could live in that pond !!

Do post some pics when its all stocked :)
