Yes, I'm still trying to arrange my tank. I'm going fish shopping tomorrow, I hope. Well, my question is, is there a way to get guppies, mollies and some sort of tetra or danio living comfortably in the 10 gal? Like, how many of each would fit? The LFS people told me it could be done, but can it really?

I know that something like tetras or danios need to be kept in groups, so thats why it seemed odd that the LFS people told me that they would all be ok in a 10 gal. But then again, this particular LFS had 5 cups of dead bettas, so that could give me a hint.

Ideally, following the rule of 1" of fish per gal, Mollies require a larger tank than a 10 gal. You could however comfortably have 2 guppies and 4 zebra danios.

If the tank is not cycled yet and you wanted to cycle it with fish I would suggest doing so with 2 zebra danios only.

actually, i'd not mix danios and guppies. danios are known fin-nippers, especially in tight quarters.

there are a lot of other tetras that don't get much larger than 2 inches; lamp-eyes come to mind immediately... my dad's got three of those and they are peaceful, almost shy fish. very pretty too.

there are a lot of tetras that you could try; how about you look at what your LFS has available and pick out a short list of your favorites. then ask around on TTF to figure out what the best combination would be for your tank.

I had two zebra danios in with my guppies for the longest time in a 10gal. I never noticed any nipping at the guppies of the danios annoying em' Maybe i was just lucky :p

I'd go with 4 female guppies and two male guppies, add lots of hiding spaces and plants. I think that would make a pretty 10 gallon. Then once your tank is pretty mature, maybe add like 5 neons.

i don't think that is such a good idea considering the breeding levels of the guppies.

Before orkybetta knew it he/she would be overrun with fry and the tank would be highly overstocked (unless there is an additonal tank to move the fry to, or an LFS to take them).

IMO either a small school (5 or 6) of neon or cardinal tetras and 4 corys as bottomdwellers would be lovely.

Danios should really be in a bigger tank and some mollies grow surprisingly big!

I would go for a small group of guppies, about 3. Then a small group of platies - again 3 would suit (2 fm/ 1m).. Then you could get a group of about 6 tetra then just about squeeze in a small group of catfish or loaches to browse the bottom of your tank.

I wouldn't have the mollies because they need brackish water to thrive...in fact I wouldn't have any live bearers.....but 2 guppies and 4 zebra danios would be ok.

You can't put danios in a 10 gallon - they need to be in groups of 5 in a 20 gallon minnimum.

Mollies need to be kept in a minnimum of 15 gallons.

Guppies and tetras would work though - maybe a trio of guppies (2 female, 1 male or all male if you preffer) and 6-8 neon tetras or 6 of another small tetra (such as rummynose or cardinal etc). Anything more than that would be over-stocking realy.

Although the 10 gallon tank would be able to accomodate the waste Zebra danios produce, these tanks arn't long enough for zebra danios to swim in comfortably.

For more specific information, i would ask the-wolf :)
