I have a 29 gallon tank with three red zebras, and two yellow tailed violet cichlids. I love my fishies! But is a 29 gallon tank too small for my five fish?? -_-

The biggest one is about four inches if not a little bigger. The others are not much small than he is. I'm getting a new tank, either a a 55 or a 75. Looking like I don't have a stand for a 75 but I have a desk that a 55 could fit on so looks like the 55 b/c I'm poor. I was getting the bigger tank for them but then thought about saltwater.

well its good that you are getting a bigger tank ;)
Did u just have a 55 stand sitting around in your house? or is that the only thing that is available in your area?
Maybe you can find someone that is a good carpenter and become really good friends with him/her then ask for a 75 gal homemade stand for xmas :D :p  :fun:

I have a desk that I will be putting it on. Hopefully it will support it. A 29 gallon is on it now.

Depending on if your yellow tailed violet cichlid is a morii from Lake Malawi, then you have plenty of space in the 29g, imo. I've kept twice that many Mbuna in a 29 before.

Sounds like your fish are mostly full grown too.

I would be real careful putting a tank that size on a desk, hopefully it is real sturdy. Remember water weighs approx. 8.5 lbs per gallon, when you talk a 55 or 75 gal tank that is approx 470-640 lbs of water not including the weight of the tank itself and any other accessories you add (i.e. substrate, rocks, etc.). I would stick to a tank stand if I were you.

If it helps I have a 75 on a large desk. It has to be very sturdy...with sand/gravel and all ornaments water etc this lot weighs near on 900lbs!!!

The desk/table I have it on is about an inch 1/2 thick, and is supported all underneath by the lmetal legs which are part of a frame. If there wasn't a solid piece of support in the middle I would worry.....

scour ebay/gumtree/freeads and you should find fair sized tanks with cabinets for a rather cheap price..Such as a juwel rio 300 with cabinet = 100 quid (i watched it end the other day so i know what i can afford for my new house, looks like ill be able to get a 300L tank without missing any money,so long as the new house has that much free space)

We've been suckered in, this post is almost 6 years old.

I was forming a nice long answer before I noticed it.
