Hi everyone, i was just wondering if someone could give me some advice, i have 3 gouramis in a 60L tank, there was also 5 neon tetras in with them but they killed them :(. I have noticed today and yesterday that there is one gourami that has been swimming irratically around the tank really fast and then hiding and not moving much, im not sure what is wrong with it, it was eating fine today. Also tonight, it was swimming round in circles really fast and then slammed into a rock and lay there like it was dead, it then swam into the stone castle and lay in there and now its swimming around again. Im really not sure what to do, i dont want anything to happen to it! Has anyone got any advice? Thank you for any help!

What are your water stats? Ammonia, NitrIte, NitrAte and pH?

Did you cycle your tank!?

-FHM

Hiya! Yes i had cycled my tank before i got any fish, my stats are:

ammonia 0
nitrites 0
nitrates 10

i just tested my ph and its at 7.6!! Is that really bad? Also, i just got a new fish yesterday, not sure if this will have anything to do with it,

Thank you!

Karen

No your pH is good.

Is there any dicoloration on the fish anywhere?

Also, try to watch your fish poo.

It should be the same color of the food he is eating.

If it is long and white, that would be an indication of worms.

Is there any bloating at all as well?

-FHM

hiya, no there is no discolouration, it seems to be swimming around ok at the minute, its poo is white, im not 100% if thats the same fish, but all of their poo seems to be white? im just feeding them fish flakes at the minute, they dont seem to be bloated at all, if it is worms what do i do?

Thank you so much for your help!

Hi, i was just wondering, if i treated the fish for internal worms anyway, even if they dont have them, would this do any harm?

Thank you for your help!

Karen

Is best to worm fish anyway.
Long stringy white poo can be constipation, bacterial infection, internal parasites.

Try some peas. Cook frozen peas for a few minutes, let cool down and pop out of shell. Mush into small peices and add to the tank.

Any excess mucas on the fish body or gills.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Can the fish maintain its balance in the water.

Hi, no mucas on the body or gills, they can maintain their balance in water, and i do see them flicking a bit and rubbing against the leaves of the plants, what is it best to treat them with?

Thank you so much for your help!

Have you been using any chemical near the tank.
Added anything new to the tank.
When was the last water change.
Can you see any tiny little bubbles on the fish.
Has your ph changed.
Any sores on the body of the fish or tiny red prick marks.

No i havent been using any chemical near the tank, only thing new was a fish i got on friday, but they were doing this before that, last water change was last night, i cant see any little bubbles, my ph increased up to 7.6 from around 7.2 (not sure when this happened though as i hadnt checked it regularly) i cant see any sores or red prick marks

How many fish are darting and swimming in circles. Is it just the gourami.
Sorry about all the questions.
Ph shock can make fish dart, but if it changed gradually the fish should be fine.

Its only the gouramis, i only have the 3 of them though, (i did have 5 neons also, but they killed them..) and i just recently added an algae eater fish, im not 100% what exactly it is though

Dont be worrying about the questions im just so grateful for your help! :)

Ok.
What does his body weight look like does he look thin or bloated.

Symtoms he showing are long stringy white poo, darting, swimming in circles.

I think I would worm him.

Swimming in circles can be swim bladder, the fish is dying, internal parasites that have caused brain damage.
Fish can also flick with internal parasites.

Yeah thats the only symptoms he has, he looks normal, not thin or bloated, although hes always hungry! What is the best stuff to worm them with? I dont have an isolation tank so is it okay to put it in for all of them? I will probably be buying the treatment in pets at home (not were fish are from though..) can i get it okay there?

Thank you!

oops sorry just seen you added a link to the treatment! I will have a look for that! Thank you so much for your help, i really do appreciate it! :) Karen

They say if you are always eating do you have worms lol.
Check his anus to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.

If he's infested with them they already done the damage and you won't be able to save that fish.
Yes treat the whole tank.
Once the med course has finished you back up with a bacterial med.
You also will need to retreat. It will tell you when in the instructions.
Also you can only buy that med online I think.

Keep a look out for any other fish darting, or flicking and rubbing.
