Is Someone Eating My Bogwood?

Hello

I haven't used Bogwood before, been in my tank about 2-3 weeks, I noticed that I get lots and lots of brown cylindrical bits all over my sand, I thought that this was just because it was new, I had pre-soaked etc.

However, every day there are lots of new bits, one of my plants leaves are being stripped too and I have just noticed very tiny snails on the bogwood, could they be making these bits from the bogwood or is someone else eating my bogwood?

What can I do, I have bought some snail away, but never used anything chemical in a tank before and a bit concerned and it feels a bit cruel for the snails?

I have 4 neons, 4 danios, a sucking loach and 3 kuhli loaches, the sucking loach is always on the bogwood?

have you got a scientific name for the sucking loach, lots of different species go by this common name, if you don't know then can you post a picture of him for us to get an ID?

Hello Miss Wiggle, have taken a picture but couldn't browse and upload in here, so as I think it is a nice photo of him/her, (best side) I have put in the Members pictures of tanks and fish area.

OK well I'm not sure if the CAE will be rasping away at your bogwood (some loach/plec species do) but you will wanmt to think about alternative accomodation for him.

i know he's cute and peaceful now but once he reaches 3/4" or so he'll stop eating algae and develop a taste for other fish, he'll get agressive, large and will happily eat your neons and danio's given half a chance.

Thank you for your help....I am annoyed with my lfs for promoting him to me when I just started out....had him about a year now.
