I read in a book that quarts is to be avoided in home aquaria because it has a tendency to dissolve. I personally don't believe it but was confussed because it was in a book and they are not known to tell lies. What do you know?

I wouldn't know... both my LFSs in town sell it, so I wouldn't think it would be too terribly bad :dunno:

I have quartz in my tank and ... well... nothing unusual has happened. :)

Quartz is the most common mineral on the face of the Earth. It is found in nearly every geological environment and is at least a component of almost every rock type. Pure Quartz can be sharp and it is harder than glass. It will scratch your tank if not positioned carefully. IMO doesn’t look very nice in aquariums. But is it safe.

That's what I thought too, but there was this older book I read and it specifically said to avoid quarts cristal because it dissolved (what ever!) K thanks for your opinions

I've never had a problem with it in any of my tanks.
