Hi all,
I have recently purchased a second-hand juwel tank which is about 110 litres (24 gallons). I was hoping that there might be some small variety of cichlids which would be suitable for this tank volume. However, to make things worse the tank isnt very long, more like a cube shape 540mm/21" length, 500mm/20"height and 400mm/16" depth. i was wondering if there are any varieties which would suit these specs, even if i could only keep a small number of them along with other types of fish. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Doug

i don't know much about chilids,... but I believe 24 gal. is way too small for anything like the chilids..... I don;t keep them though, so I may just be wrong :p

Im not a cichlid expert but im pretty sure you can keep rams, although they are very hard to keep, something like germen blue or bolivian, they are cichlids!

Papa smurf, I truly don't understand your reason for posting this. If you don't know much about cichlids much less how to spell the name of them properly, then why? Also you don't have any experience keeping any of them why would you just take a stab in the dark and possibly lead this person in the wrong direction with bad advice.

It's always acceptable to give advice on something you are knowledgeable about. But, that's why there are specialized sections in the forum. If someone wants to know something about cichlids then they would like to ask people who know something about them. Not someone who is just going to guess. Please only offer advice when you have good advice to give. And yes for your information you are in fact wrong. If you don't know anything about the fish at least do some research on it before assuming. ;)

Doug- Lamprologus multifasciatus
lamprologus brevis
Altolamprologus sp.
lamprologus ocellatus
lamprologus ornatipinnis
(these are just shelldwellers)

Like others have mentioned, A pair of Kribs or Rams would also be a great addition to your new tank.
Good Luck.

yea id go with the rams.

there not hard to keep at all either.

nice shoal of neons and some cory cats for the bottom and youll have a sweet looking tank i reckon!!

if you get a pair of rams then theres the chance theyll breed too which is kewl.

Tanganyikan shelldwellers.... need a high PH though...

Rams are notorious for needing spot on water conditions...they are not recommened for a fishkeeper new to cichlids....

a ph as low as 7.8 would be suitable as long as the shellie came from similiar conditions, ask your lfs what their ph is or do what i do, take in a test tube and do it yourself.
