Is My Tank Cycled?

Angelbear - cycled is the term given to a filter which has grown both sets of bacteria - the first converts Ammonia (toxic) to Nitrite (toxic) and the second converts Nitrite to Nitrate (non toxic). The Ammonia - Nitrite chaps grow first and then the others follow on (I believe they are slightly slower growing or maybe they only appear when there is Nitrite form the first lot's activities?).
This will naturally happen when you keep fish (the "fish in" cycle which you are doing) or under more controlled conditions when you do a "fish less" cycle which is less work and runs zero chance of damaging fish.
Hope this helps

Maisy - what happens if you stop adding Cycle? I assume that you've stopped adding it to the original tank; maybe that is why you are suddenly seeing ammonia in there? I assume that Cycle is a chemical which bonds to Ammonia to prevent it from being toxic but does it also prevent the bacteria from accessing it?
I would suggest moving the media from your old filter to the new - you are X weeks further along on the cycle on that tank compared to your virgin, pristine filter in the new tank - so even if it isn't cycled it is more cycled that the one that you have on the new tank :)

I didn`t add cycle to my original tank,so am totally confused.

I wouldn't worry about it too much! Just keep testing your water and do your water changes when required!
