Is my Ram Male or Female?

I bought this little guy a few days ago, I wanted a pair but ended up w/ just one. I don't know what was going through my head that day

Anyway, I picked out the brightest & most colorful one, although you can't really tell by the pics as the flash was too bright. I was told that he was a male, but I'm really not sure as this is my first ram. I wanna get him or her a buddy!

How do you tell anyway?

& is it ok to get 2 boys or 2 girls?

hmm. looks like a female to me. if so get her another female and one male.
or if a male get him 2 females. but im preety sure she is a she

I agree with the female diagnosis. The seceond pic isn't too clear, however the first pic shows a nice pink hue on the belly. As well, the first few rays of the dorsal fin aren't extended much beyond the rest of the rays. However I would stick with the pink belly as the best tell-tale for gender. Just my 2 cents FWIW...

I was looking at past posts for misc ram info, and there was a similar post, w/a similar pic; that one turned out to be female so I just wanted to make sure. I guess there goes the name Mr. Blue

My boyfriend was going to get me a female today (before I knew it was female), and they said they were all males... I hope I can pick a male out.

just look for one with no red on it. So far the only gender my lfs has gotten right was with platies and swordtails.
