Hi all,

My plec has been in the same poisition for a week now so I thought I would move him gently see if he was ok.

When he can out his colour was blotchy...

Im really worried he might be sick, can someone please advise as to what might cause this?!

Water is fine. Ph 7.6 zero ammonia & nitrites & 5ppm nitrate

What have you been feeding him?

How big is your tank?

How long has it been set up?

What else is in the tank?

Let's start there and see where it leads us.

Tank was fully cycle around 6weeks ago, I moved him over 2weeks ago.

Rio 125 litre. I have GBR, cardinal tetras and rummy nose. He has beenfine with these tanks mates since iv had him.

I feed algae wafers to him, I feed other fish brine shrimp, pellet, flake and occasionally blood worm.

I haven't seen him on the glass yet, and is not very active at all

Well, that's perplexing. Are you sure he's not out and about at night? That's when mine goes a-hunting, but during the day he hangs out in the same spot, all day long. Do you have some driftwood in there for him? They need it to remain healthy.

I'm not too worried about his movements as I know they can stay in places for a while, but ian surprised he hasn't sucked the algea on the glass yet!?

Also I'm very worried about those white blotches on him.

Yes I has enough wood in there for him

as far as im aware they are quite territorial fish, maybe he's just making his home that particular rock :?

Is there a big enough piece of driftwood that he can use it for cover?

It's not a teroratol issue and him being in that place doesn't concern me, it's the blotchy White patches on his skin.... When I got him it was alll black with s gold shimmer !?

Those blotchy patches are just stress colouration. It's very common in plecs (well, fish of all kinds actually) for them to go either pale or dark when they're upset. I expect he wasn't happy about having to leave his 'spot' :)

That in itself is nothing to worry about.

Thanks buddy that's the answer I was looking for! Pheewww :)

I personally would try and assess if the white patches on his fins are damage or just colouration. Maybe tricky to tell but just see if the fins look frayed or damaged.

Any idea what type of pleco this is? Im not to sure myself as it seems rather small and stumpy so doesnt strike me as a common, but its shape is difficult to tell exactly. What were you told it was when you bought it?

Its a blue panaque. The fins are not frayed and are supposed to be bluey White.

It's more the White on his body I'm worried about!
