Hello schesns. If you buy fish at the local pet store, then the females will be pregnant. Males and females are raised together. If you want most of the fry to survive, then heavily plant the surface of the tank and start feeding the fish a little more and more often. The fry of live bearing fish will immediately swim to the surface for air and will hide in the surface plants. By feeding the adults a little more, they tend to leave the fry alone. Keep the water extra clean by changing a little more and more often. If you're not already doing this, work up to the point you change half the tank water every week.

It's impossible to tell from the photo as the anal fin (the one underneath right in front of the tail) is held too close to the body. But you can see the fish swimming round.

In a female, the anal fin is the normal triangular shape. In a male it is rod shaped (called a gonopodium and is used to impregnate females).

Both your variatus platies are male. Both have a good body shape. The first one may have eaten better. So, just well fed.
Don't pay attention to the dark spot on its belly. That is what we call a pseudo gravid spot in males.
