Okay so I brought this little darling home from the pet store. And when I finally integrated her into the tank, I thought "wowsa! That's a pregnant fish!" Compard to my other sunburst Molly, she's big. So I bought a breeding contraption and got prepared, but it's been 3 weeks and she was seemingly huge to begin with and now I am starting to wonder.

Thought I would ask you all.

Here is the link with the picture of her on the left, compared to the other Molly on the right.

So, whatcha thinK??

Fat fish?

Or pregnant??

And any advice on it would be great too if she is pregnant. I am nervous that I catch her in time to give birth away from the community tank. EEK!

Thanks in advance!! ;)

It's a high possible that she is pregnant as most female fish who come from the petstores are.

You may be able to see eggs in her belly, this would tell you more if she is pregnant or not. :good:

Be sure that she has been pooing, as if she has not been she may be constipated.

Hi fishkies, you have helped me before on setting up my tank. Now I have one! Yay! LoL. Anyway, yeah her belly is dark dark in one place, but I just don't know. And she has been pooping quite frequently so I think she is okay with that. I just don't want to isolate her in such a teeny tiny thing for too long. I keep putting off putting her in the breeding net, but maybe I should now. I just hate seeing her in such a little thing, even if it's inside the community tank.

Oh my gosh and is it true that they don't need a male to reproduce? I am confused here. I hear they store sperm so they can get pregnant often, but what is the full story here?

They are capable of storing sperm for up to six months, and will continually give birth during that time. Get ready for a population explosion. :shout:

I have 2 platies which looks the same they had been like this for 2 weeks lol.

Hi there. I have platys in my tank and i have had two sets of babies in about 4 weeks, but they only have small broods so it aint such a major thing. When they are pregnant, well, from what i see, they do get a dark patch at the back of their tummy. I have been told that you can see the babies wriggling around but i have never seen that. The babies are sooooooo sweet though!!! :mama: GRJ
