Hey everybody, recently bought a heater of eBay because my other one died and was wondering how you can tell if it's working?? after 2 days of use, one my guppies was suspending himself vertically, and when i tapped the glass he snapped out of it, but quickly returned to suspendng himself. has my guppy gone crazy??

i set the heater at 25 degrees celsius, but haven't found a thermometer...

It doesn't matter what you set the heater at. Go get yourself a thermometer.

Without a thermometer you can't have any clue as to whether or not your heater is working. It could be heating up the water to an unbearable temp for the fish, it could also be leaking a current or it may not be working at all. A thermometer is a must have for equipment. Heaters are notorious for being inaccurate, even the more expensive brands that are considered good heaters can be inaccurate. Get the thermometer that actually sits/floats in the tank. I find that the "stick on" ones are unclear to read.

finally got a thermometer that wasnt stupidly overpriced, as it turns out, the water was set at 25 degrees, but was actually 20, so i set it at 30 to see if it made a difference, now my water is between 25 and 26 degrees and fish are no longer crazy
