Hi

I've recently bought a second hand fish tank. However, the chap I bought it off said he had cleaned it with a bathroom detergent. I was going to give the tank a good rinse with water before setting it up- is there anything else I should do?

Regards

Clean it again with bleach/water mix until you are happy it is ready to be put where it will go.

Rinse as best you can. Then fill it to the top with water adding the appropriate amount of dechlor. Leave it for a while, empty rinse again and repeat the dechlor process again. Empty it and you should be OK to start your setting up.

Yeah I'd do what SuperColey already said. Clean it again with bleach to make sure that it is clean, then rinse it and really good to make sure that all the bleach is gone. Then you should be fine.

1. Bleach it.
2. Empty.
3. Fill with 5x dechlor dose for a while.
4. Empty.
5. Fill with 1x dechlor dose for a while.
6. Empty.
7. Fill with normal dose and you're done.

That's how I did it when I had to sterilise my tank.
