Could somone help me determine whether my zebra danio is pregnant (egg scatterer) or sick.

Its been like this for about 4 days now. Thats the best pic i could get, they're fast little fishes.

Thanks

Paul.

edit: Water parameters have been tested and all are fine. The fish is still swimming about like a headless chicken along with the other zebra danios I have.

She definatly looks ill to me- that lump isn't what a pregnant stomach should look like but i'm afraid i can't realy help you more...

Oh dear - I have to agree :/ that doesn't quite look right, but unfortunately do not really know what could be wrong either.

firstly well done on the pic, theyre a nightmare to photograph aren't they.

as to wether she's pregnant or not i'm not sure. i've had 6 for about a year and they all get fat at some poing then thin again (assuming theyre pregnant) but my other fishies eat the eggs (if theyre are any) before i can find any fry.

that aside she may be bloated/constipated.

a natural cure is peas. boil 3 or 4 peas and take the shells off. stick a soggy pea to your finger and very carefully place it above the sick/pregnant fish. she should go for it quite quickly.

if she's bunged up it'll act as a laxative. if she's pregnant she gets a treat.

worth a try.

i gave this treatment to the danio in the pic below and a week later her "beer belly" had gone.

sorry, good luck hope it isn't nothing to serious, fingers crossed.

Thanks for all the replies, i'll try a boiled pea tonight and hopefully see if that works. It doesnt seem to be affecting her/him. Just need to keep my fingers and toes crossed.

Paul.

UPDATE !!

Unfortunately my little danio gradually got worse, it lost a lot of weight and this morning I woke up and noticed it had a curved spine. It was struggling to swim and so I decided to put it out of its misery.

Now the scary part... I looked up possible symptoms and found it looks likely to have been TB.

Isn't this disease dangerous to humans, some websites say it is while others say its not.

I need reassuring, also some websites say i should kill all my other fish (even though they seem perfectly healthly) and bleach the tank and start again.

HELP !

Here's a scary article about the dangers of fish keeping. The pictures at the bottom are disgusting.
Tank diseases transfered to humans

Fish TB can be transfered to humans. However, it enters from infected tank water via small scratch or open wound. I think it gives a granuloma-type skin condition with lesions; treatment is a course of antibiotics.
As with any disease, some people are unlucky and suffer more with it than others do (just think of how the same cold bugs affect different people in an office), but my understanding is that for the vast majority of people it clears up with antibiotics without too much fuss.
Also, I don't think it's actually that easy to contract it, even if your danio had TB and died and you got loads of the tank water over yourself and you had scratches all over, you wouldn't be "gauranteed" to catch it and have symptoms.
I reckon you need to bear it in mind and if you do get the skin symptoms go to the doctor and tell him what you think it is - will make treatment quicker. However, if you're worried, you could always go to your GP immediately.
