I have this female betta that i bought on friday and she has a nice swollen stomach.
Is it possible that she could be pregnant or do they have a "period" where they get the eggs ready to go and then the male comes and does hs thing.
All the water lvls are right on. Heavily planted.. I dont think that it is my tank. I will see if I can grab a pic.

Hiya, just a few questions,
Was her stomach like this when you bought her?
Was she in a tank alone or with other bettas?
Whats your tank size?
Does she have tank mates, if so what tankmates?

probably eggy or bloated...not much you can do if shes eggy...she will either release them or her body will absorb them...feed her a cooked deshelled pea that you cut up into little pieces...if shes bloated that will help to clean her out...and hold off feeding for a day or two...dont worry, she wont starve...fish can go a looong time without food.
try the pea and a starve day or two and see if that helps
cheers

Ok, yes, her stomach was slightly bloated. It is a little bigger now if I recall correctly.
It is a 75g community tank with one other female betta. Other than that, it is 25 or some random groups.
I have moved her to her 5 gallon tank to make sure she is in peace at least. Temp is 78*f.
Rummy nose
black phanton
neon tertas
cory cat
2 bumble gobys
you should look at page 3 of my sig. it has the whole list.
I will keep that in mind. She swims around ok, but likes to hang in the corner. I have some pics, I upload them tonight.

As loraxchick said, try some pea see if i helps, just feed a litle in small ammounts and then see how she goes on.
Try ge some picures if possible :)

I came home from work today and took a quick look at her. She is still getting bigger, but now she has a white thing that is coming from her anal fin.
I saw this on the other female I have. Is she "eggy" The other is not this big though. That is why i think she has dropsy or something.
I really hope it is not dropsy!! Also, I noticed she is starting to pine cone.
I guess i need to ask myself, is it worth it to buy the meds for $10 or get a new betta for 4 bucks.
I have only had her for 5 days. WTH!!!
I hate to sound this way, but we have to look at the economics of it. If I had the stuff on hand, I would certainly give it all to her to save her, but in the grand scheme, all i have is ridich and epsom salt and some frozen peas. This has been going on almost since day 1. That Friday when it would have the first 24 hours into the tank.

This is the best i can get. I have no camera just a vid cam.
The video is only like 7mb or so. No audio, about 1 min long
Thanks

Here's an update.
Went to the lfs where i bought her.
Spoke with the manager, they no longer carry maracyn. Yup, petco no longer carries it.
Anyway, the manager pulled out a bottle from the back room, (store use only) Maracyn plus!!
And gave it to me to use. I will call him in 5 days and give him an update on the situation.
In the meantime, she is still alive and kicking. biggrin.gif
I am putting her in 30 min epson salt bathes. 1tsp per 1gal of water. I just did a 100% water change and replaced it with 4 day old aged water.
I followed the directions, i think 10ml of maracyn to 10 gallons. I went ahead and doubled the dose for the first day. 10ml in a 5 gal tank and the temp is at 80*F.
She is still really swollen, but imo the epson salt does bring down her swelling a little bit.
I also added some salt to the water. 2 tsp.
Hopefully that will help reduce a little swelling and get the meds in her. Poor little girl. I feel so bad, but a little better now that i can help her try to fight it off.
so thats the latest. Still looking for a little help from the crowd. Thoughts???

Sorry for your loss.

You most likely over medicated her, never double doses and dont overdo salt baths, that and bettas dont like salt in their water, just a few things incase that happens again.
