This picture is a little old (I do not have access to my aquariums right now. My gf is taking care of them)

I have added a 2nd filter, and my lily pad has grown way bigger but not enough to make any real shade in it. I have 3 water wisterias in my aquarium but they grow rather slow it seems and is not making much of a difference

The only problem with having too much light would be algae. I could be wrong but im sure the fish will be fine.

If you dont have much or any algae build up you should be fine.

some fish prefer subdued lighting and wont be very active under intese lights, prefering to hide away in any cover they can find.

so, depends what fish you have really.

Do not have an algae problem in that aquarium but I do have some in my 10 gallon (which is roughly of equal brightness) but it doesnt have an algae eater in it. I have a semi morning-day-dusk-night scheme going, it gets some light from the sun in the mornings before I get up then I turn the aquarium light on then at the end of the day I turn the aquarium light off but light from my room's light usually stays on another hour or so. I dont know if any of that lowers the shock or not but I am sure it helps.

I'd advise a timer for the lights, so they have a set amount of hours each day......they are very cheap to buy.

But overall how much does it bother most fish to be in lighting roughly the same as mine? Am I making a concern of something I shouldn't unless I get certain fish?

Does 30 minutes (usually less) difference each day make a difference? Im pretty good about turning them on at roughly the same time each day. But I think u r right, i know fish like their surroundings to be constant.

it's more about the ease for you. What if you forget? What if you go away for a weekend? What if you come home late?

Having a timer saves all these issues.

In terms of having the lights on, the fish don't really care, they are more for your viewing of the tank or for growing plants.

your tank lights do not look bright at all.

so it appears I am fine. I was just wondering if fish preferred shade to direct light mostly. I know my lighting is nothing compared to some I've seen. It does seem brighter in person than the picture though but it is just a normal "natural daylight" fluorescent light.

all of our tanks have lights on them, some more intense than others.......yours are not intense.

nothing to worry about.

Ok, thanks guys! Was just making sure I was not hurting my fish in any way and I will be getting a timer soon more than likely.

I might as well ask on this thread, how long do you leave your lights on for each day? I get up around half 7am and switch them on straight away and i turn them to the 'night light' around 8pm and turn that off about 11ish when i go to bed

I leave mine on for 4 hours but I have too much light and an algae problem so I reduced my times. But generally 6-8 hours is what is suggested. If you start getting algae start reducing the times to combat the algae.
