Is mg/l the same as ppm?

Since there are a thousand milligrams to the gram and a thousand grams to the kilogram, mg per kg = ppm. A liter of water weighs extremely close to a kilogram (1.000028 kg by one estimate). Impurities will affect the weight of the water, but I'm pretty sure it's close enough for fishkeeping.
