Me and my grandmother just had an argument about me wanting to buy female bettas from styx because she thinks that after I send her the money that I either won't get the fish or the fish will be dead or sick. Then she was talking about how she thought my common pleco would live a normal life in a 10g for its life. But told her that it would get stunted and die. She also said "if you want a fish to get big you give it a big tank but if you want the fish to stay small you put it in a small tank" so could you all tell her wrong so she will stop hounding me?

Telling your grandma to shut up isn't the best idea, but yes, you are right. Remember, there are alot of misconceptions about fish keeping and their actual needs. Can't tell you anything about shipping fish, because i've never done it, but i'd ask about the temperature because it can get cold while shipping.

No she doesn't think the bettas would die during shipping, she thinks that styx will send me dead or sick bettas.

Fishfishfish all questions if possible.

She just doesn't trust things being bought online because she has heard things about how once the person gets your money you won't get what you bought and they never come back online and they hide from you. I am going to ask Styx if she could send me the bettas then once I recieve them I will send her the money just to make sure I get what I want.

you have to get a DOA or death on arrival.my petris were shipped to me.fish grow ass long as they have a good food supply healthey water and a slightl varied diet.fish dont technically get stunted and die they grow spinalcord probs of other small tank large fish diseases

grandma...SHUT UP

It's proiorty shipping and in the box is 7 female bettas, styrofoam, and a heat pack all for $26.60

put these things called shipping buddies or suttin like that.thay produce oxygen and eat carbon dioxide.either buy em and ship em to her or have her buy em and increse the amount.they will then be fine

Hi Durbkat :)

I doubt very much if Styx would send you fish that are sickly, but you should realize that it's always a big risk when you send fish by Priority Mail. That's why there is no guarantee.

Parts of this country are cold at this time of year, and heat packs last for 60 hours at best. If your package gets lost or sent to the wrong place, there is nothing anyone can do about it. It's not reasonable to expect her to absorb the cost. This is standard when buying fish by mail.

If you want to have the best chance of getting your fish in good condition, spend the extra money and have them shipped with a guaranteed next day delivery.

BTW, shame on you for disrespecting your grandmother.

Let her have a look at the bettas you are buying. Let her have a look around these forums, read a few of Styx's posts... hopefully she will warm to the idea. The best thing though is not to pressure her. Most likely, when your grandma was your age, even when your parents were your age, you couldn't buy fish over the internet. You got them from a pet shop.

So tell her in detail about the fish, and Styx, and hopefully she'll let you get them. :)

Good luck!
