Is It To Late To Save Minx

I have read loads of posts and they are all pointing to the fact that minx is really poorly. BUT i need to know if there is any chance of saving him. I have a picture but being a newbie dont know how to post it.

I am almost sure he has dropsy. showing signs of coning. He is eating peas (Is this wrong) Swims around after being fed then stays in his cave. He also has a (not sure how to discribe it) but a patch which Looks red raw at top end of stomache, it seems to be getting bigger.

I am doing water changes once a week 25%, and at the moment using melefix.

Is there anythingelse i could do. I have already lost 1 fish (Jinx) i really dont want to lose this one, WELL Not without a fight. Please Please help this newbie.

to post a pic you can use photobucket.com to upload pics from your computer then take the img tag and paste it in to your thread.

As for the fish, how many gallons is the tank and it could be that the water changes arent enough as bacteria is over loading the fishes system causing kidney failure. Once you see the coning then thats the end of the disease and usually the fish as well.
melafix isnt strong enough and you would be better switching to epsom salt to draw the fluid away. Try half a teaspoon per 5 gallons and raise the tank temp to 80f.

Thankyou so much for replying. I will give the photo ago.

My tank is Jewel Rio 125 litres (UK) (which Minx has all to himself as i lost my other fantail)
What salt should i use.

I have taken the carbon filter out because of the melefix (is this wrong) now my amonia level is 0.4

nitrite 0.25

ph 7

My testing kit is interpet EASY KIT

the odds arent good im afraid but he doesnt look to be coned too badly yet. Epsom salt you can buy from a chemist.
The red looks like a bacterial infection on the skin so you need to do lots of water changes.

If you pm me then i have meds that will help.
