Is it safe to put a female pregnant guppie into a breeding contraption before she realeses
The breeding contraption is one of the plastic ones, with a divider and when the fry are born, they fall down into a small compartment away from mom

Questions

1. I have 4 female guppies with 1 male. I know they are all pregnant, is it safe to put them in the breeding contraption so they can have there babies in there, then put them back into the tank?

2. How do i know when they are dropping their fry soon?

3.How do i know when to put the mom gup into the breeding contraption?

4. How long can the fry stay in the breeding contraption?

thanks.

Sure, it's safe to stick her in there.

1. Are you putting 4 females in one of those tiny breeder boxes? That's not very nice... they're usually for one female only.

2. If they are HUGE, swimming in a corner or in one particular spot in the tank, and are breathing heavily, that's a sign they're about to give birth

3. When she starts having the above signs, or just looks ready

4. When my female is done, I usually take the female out and the triangular thing they slip through when they're born so they have more time to swim around. You can keep them in there as long as you want, but it's best to give them more room. A little 1 gallon tank is even okay for a couple dozen fry. They need lots of room or they'll grow very slowly.

Incubation nets and breeders tend to cause stress on fish, causing them to abort the fry. I would just let them give birth in the same tank, or better yet, get the fish their own birthing tank. Then you can remove the adult fish after she gives birth.
